Horsin’ Around Therapeutic Riding Center was founded in 2009 to serve the needs of individuals with mental and/or physical challenges in Valencia and Socorro counties. The Mission of Horsin’ Around is to improve the wellbeing of individuals through equine-assisted therapy. We believe that horses and the therapy they provide make a difference by creating strong and healthy individuals, families and communities. Horsin’ Around is a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) certified, 501C3 non-profit organization that provides therapeutic activities centered around horses. We provide equine assisted services to youth and adults with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges in Valencia and Socorro counties. In addition to the therapeutic benefits, horseback riding also provides recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities to enjoy the outdoors. Experiencing the motion of a horse can be very therapeutic. Because horseback riding rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength. Therapeutic/adaptive horsemanship contributes to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with disabilities. We believe that any individual can experience the rewarding benefits of horsemanship.
