Grants Awarded
The Day of the Tread is an annual cycling and walking event that supports the Zia Freewheelers program of the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation by raising funds to provide hand cycles for children with developmental disabilities. Participants, including at least 40 young people from the foundation each year, gain opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and improved mobility, ultimately enhancing their overall quality of life and fostering community inclusion.
Day of the Tread is the largest cycling event in Albuquerque, attracting more than 1,500 cyclists and 200 walkers. In 2023, we added a Gravel Grinder to the event. For 2024, we will have road cycling (distances ranging from 7 miles to 100 miles), the Gravel Grinder (distances ranging from 7 miles to 75 miles) and a 4K walk.
