Grants Awarded

2025
Outdoor Equity Fund
Otero County
$40,000

From Fall 2025 to 2026, SR and SHP will collaborate to offer bike mechanics training to staff and youth interns and establish a cycling program prizing engagement, nature, and community. This training compensates for a lack of cycling infrastructure in rural or Pueblo areas, encouraging self-reliance. The program not only improves participants' cycling skills and awareness, but also fosters appreciation for the outdoors and cultural heritage. Through the 'Train-the-Trainer' initiative, SHP gains the tools to build their own cycling programs, potentially boosting local economies while promoting health and sustainability within Black/Indigenous/People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Through creating cycling accessibility and intertwining it with cultural and ecological learning, SR and SHP aim to create healthier communities and further economic and sustainable independence.
