Tewa Women United
Grants Awarded
Tewa Women United's Environmental Justice and Gender Justice programs will provide Native youth in Rio Arriba County with immersive outdoor education experiences, centered around body sovereignty, climate education, and traditional ecological knowledge. The aim is to foster empowerment, cultural engagement, and stewardship of the land through a blend of Indigenous wisdom and hands-on learning. Programs, starting in Fall 2025, include a week-long astronomy-focused day-camp, a 3-day youth council retreat, outdoor adventures with cultural learning, a 2-week health-focused day camp, food sovereignty workshops at Espanola Healing Foods Oasis, and grow box cultivation project in partnership with the T’Saya’in Circle of Grandmothers. The overall goal of these programs is to inspire leadership and wellness in Native youth, encouraging them to take an active role in ensuring the sustainability of their ancestral homelands.
