"Adaptive Pathways: Returning to Land and Culture" is a program designed to provide Native Americans with physical disabilities, specifically in rural tribal communities of northwest New Mexico, enhanced access to outdoor activities through adaptive equipment and structured programs. By employing an adaptive equipment expansion strategy, weekly outdoor activities, and a trailblazing inclusive recreation summit, this initiative strives to promote equitable trail utilization and environmental custodianship, while simultaneously strengthening community ties and policy alignment. By serving local Native American individuals experiencing spinal cord injuries or other forms of physical difficulties, this program fosters youth and adult engagement in outdoor activities, facilitating a connection to the land and their culture in the process. Expected results include direct outdoor experiences for 50 individuals with disabilities, increased support for adaptive trial use, two adaptive handcycles for community use, new partnerships, and changed policies.
