Grants Awarded

2021
Outdoor Recreation Trail+
Bernalillo County
$25,000

The MRGCD initiative will enhance access to the Rio Grande for boaters, birders, and anglers while fostering opportunities for picnicking and nature studies in the area. Key improvements include the construction of two boat ramps, a designated parking area, picnic facilities, and the establishment of a native riparian habitat, which will collectively promote outdoor recreation and environmental education within the local community.

Total Grants Awarded: $25,000

MRGCD will develop river access to the Rio Grande on the northeast side of the Highway 550 bridge. This access will allow boaters, birders, and anglers to access the river. The project will also provide for picnicking and nature study near the river. The 550 River Access will involve construction of 2 boat ramps (upstream and downstream of the bridge), gates and pipe rails to control vehicle access, a parking area, 5 picnic tables, and redirection of the NMDOT storm water pump station outflow to create a riparian area on the south side of the bridge. The Town of Bernalillo will delineate the parking area with cottonwood logs and stumps. MRGCD will also rip and revegetate with native seeding roads north of Bosque Park and remove existing concrete rubble from the project area. New Mexico Paddlers Coalition will develop and install regulatory and interpretive signs.
