The University of New Mexico–Taos branch campus serves students from northern New Mexico and the larger community with comprehensive educational opportunities in order to better prepare them to successfully participate in the world as educated, skilled, creative and responsible individuals. The Taos campus is an open-access, student-centered, affordable college that offers dual-credit, basic skills, transfer, career-technical, workforce training and lifelong learning courses and programs. The University of New Mexico–Taos Campus seeks to deliver comprehensive community education. Consistent with this philosophy, it is the goal of the college to provide within available resources, programs and services of superior quality to meet the education needs of all citizens of the community. The goals that have been identified to fulfill the mission of UNM-Taos are to provide: a high-quality learning environment for all students; a wide range of academic programs culminating in the awarding of Associate degrees; a wide range of career-technical programs culminating in certificates and degrees for students who seek career-related employment in business, industry, government, and health care; a transfer program to include a wide range of general education and pre-professional courses which normally articulate with Baccalaureate degree-granting institutions; a diversified program of academic and career-technical courses to allow for the achievement of individual educational goals involving professional or technical skills development, professional recertification and/or personal interest; non-credit continuing adult education services to the community in the areas of business and professional training, personal development, cultural enrichment, and recreational activities; developmental education courses to acquire the basic verbal, quantitative, and cognitive skills necessary for a student’s successful transition into college-level study; an array of student support services that include faculty and staff academic advisement and career counseling, diagnostic and placement testing, financial aid, and human development opportunities readily accessible to all students. UNM-Taos is one of the newest and smallest of the UNM branches, yet in 2011 was ranked as one of the top 25 community colleges in the nation for growth. We boast a sophisticated curriculum and highly qualified faculty. The campus is situated in a high mountain valley between the Rio Grande and the 1,000 year-old Taos Pueblo. Klauer Campus reflects Taos’ laid-back style known throughout the Southwest. And it honors the area’s connection to the land and conservation efforts; the campus is fully powered by one of the largest solar arrays in New Mexico. The University of New Mexico-Taos Student Government (UNMTSG) purpose is to represent the interests and concerns of the student body of The University of New Mexico-Taos and to fairly and judiciously expend such funds as are available for student clubs, activities and initiatives under the guidance of advisors, UNM-Taos business office and UNM policies and procedures. UNMTSG will be overseeing E5: Empowerment through the Enjoyment of Education Environment Excursions.
