The City of Santa Fe is working to become the most family-friendly, user-friendly, and livable city in America. The City is home to some of the best outdoor recreation opportunities in the country. The City’s system of parks, open space areas, trails and recreational centers is a key component of the identity of the City and contributes to the City’s high quality of life, strong cultural identity, and tourism draw. The Parks and Open Space division maintains 2,500 acres of open space, 77 developed parks, 26 undeveloped parks, and 170 miles of trails. Park amenities include ball fields, skate parks, tennis courts, disc golf, playgrounds/tot lots, ADA walking paths, picnic shelters, swimming pools, and a golf course. One of the most well-known parks is the historic plaza. The City is consistently working on ways to build more sustainable and equitable amenities for residents. Recent accomplishments by the Parks Division include investments in strategic, regional parks, conversion to LED lighting in parks, and water conservation through installation of synthetic turf fields and better irrigation technologies.
