Jemez Enterprises
Grants Awarded
The Jemez Pueblo plans to expand its commitment to health and wellness with the establishment of the Jemez Adventure Park, adding a 2-mile hike-and-bike trail, a family-friendly Frisbee golf course, and an activity-packed outdoor pavilion to its existing attractions. This project is designed to provide meaningful outdoor recreation for tribal members and enhance the visitor experience at the Walatowa Visitor Center, generating increased revenue through higher footfall and subsequent food, cafe, and gift shop sales. Partnerships with local trail builders, Frisbee golf course creators, and lumber suppliers have been secured to realize the vision of Jemez Enterprises for the venture.
As an economic arm of the Pueblo, Jemez Enterprise is here to inspire, engage, educate, and serve all visitors as well as our local community with Jemez culture, language, food, and wisdom. We aim to sustain and generate prosperity (e.g., relationships, financial, cultural exchange) for the Pueblo and to support a strong local economy through eco-cultural tourism and other enterprises. Currently, Jemez Enterprises runs the gas station, the Walatowa Visitor Center, and Walatowa Timber Industries. Over the last few years, Jemez Enterprises has executed several projects and continues to work on more. We have just completed our AIANTA Grant that supports Indigenous Tourism. Under this grant, Jemez Enterprises was able to accomplish several goals. We were able to train and hire several tour guides for our hiking trail. These individuals have a deep understanding of our Jemez history and are able to provide our guests with a memorable experience. We were also able to build several shade structures on our current trail and provide educational signage along the way. Another project we just completed consisted of creating the first ever 30-second marketing video for Jemez Enterprises. We worked with Edit House out of Rio Rancho. The result was a beautiful commercial that we are currently running on several platforms. We are also waiting to hear back from two grants we have submitted. One is to build a fresh market adjacent to our gas station. This market would sell fresh vegetables and produce along with meat, poultry, pork, fish and more. The other grant is for the repatriation of our ancestral artifacts. We have a very strong team here at Jemez Enterprises that allows us to complete all these projects. Our team is excited about the opportunity to start this new project with the Outdoors Recreation Trails+ Grant.
