The McKenzie Ridge Trail Connector is a 22-mile link between the Hilso (McGaffey) and Twin Springs Trail Systems, enhancing access to the 186-mile Zuni Mountain Trail Project. This initiative provides participants with recreational opportunities while promoting community engagement and tourism in McKinley and Cibola counties. By completing this regional trail, the project aims to improve the local environment and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

The Northside Recreation Planning and Design Project targets future acquisition of priority lands in McKinley County, New Mexico, kickstarting a larger Northside Conservation and Recreation Project. It aims to protect natural resources, improve recreational access, and boost the region's economy through increased outdoor activities. By utilizing funds from the Outdoor Recreation Division’s Trails+ grant program and other sources, it will explore potential acquisition and development of a 4,500-acre site, with a strong focus on conservation, community health, and job creation. With broad local support, the project is poised to enhance regional connectivity and equitable access to outdoor recreation while significantly contributing to long-term open space preservation.
