Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon
Grants Awarded
The Mt. Taylor Quadrathlon will secure a new snowcat to improve grooming of snow routes to Mt. Taylor, significantly increasing access to the winter recreation area and ensuring the race's continuity for years to come. This initiative will benefit both participants and the local community by enhancing recreational opportunities and promoting sustainable winter tourism.
The Mt. Taylor Quadrathlon is more than a race. It’s a bucket list multi-sport winter endurance party! The Quad is a 4 sport race up and back down the highest peak in NW New Mexico. Contestants are challenged to bike 13 miles up the steep paved road leading to Mt. Taylor then, run an additional 5 miles on a snowpacked gravel road before switching to a pair of cross country skis and ascending 2 miles on a groomed trail. Finally, racers strap on a pair of snowshoes and trek the final mile to the summit of Mt. Taylor; 5,400’ higher than where they started. Once stopping to catch their breath at the top, they turn around and brave the 22 mile stretch again to get back to the finish line. Solo, teams, pairs- we have space for everyone! Ready to take on the Ultimate Challenge alone? The solo category is for you. If you want a taste of the spice but need another year to commit, try racing as a team or pair first. Whether you’re crushing records or looking to enjoy the day at party pace, we have a spot for you. For 41 years, the Quadrathlon has been supporting the Grants, NM economy and encouraging folks from all walks of life to experience the joy of recreating outside. In addition to hosting the annual winter race, the Quadrathlon reinvests proceeds back into the local community through initiatives such as support of the Cibola Trail Alliance, Mt. Taylor 50k and Grants High School band.
