History: Established in 2019, the New Mexico Child First Network (NMCFN) was founded to address the unique needs of children in foster care and those dedicated to supporting them in New Mexico. The organization is committed to ensuring that these children and their foster families receive the necessary resources, support, and advocacy to thrive. Current Programs and Activities: NMCFN offers a range of programs and activities to support children in foster care and their families. These initiatives include: Trauma-informed training and resources: Providing comprehensive training to foster parents, caregivers, and professionals to deepen their understanding of the impact of trauma on children and how to create healing environments. Policy reform: Advocating for and driving policy changes aimed at improving the lives of children in foster care. Direct mentorship and support: Offering individualized mentorship and support to children in foster care and their families. Top Accomplishments: NMCFN has achieved several noteworthy milestones, such as: Delivering trauma-informed training to over 1,000 foster parents and caregivers. Advocating for and implementing policy changes that have positively impacted the lives of children in foster care. Free Fishing Day at Tingley Beach: A highlight among NMCFN’s successful events is the Free Fishing Day at Tingley Beach. This event provided children in foster care and their families with an opportunity to enjoy a day of fishing and fun. During the last Free Fishing Day, over 500 children and their families participated, with each child receiving their own fishing pole and tackle. New Mexico Child First Network is a vital organization, making a tangible difference in the lives of children in foster care. The organization’s trauma-informed training, policy reform initiatives, and direct mentorship and support are pivotal in shaping a brighter future for these children.
