Northern New Mexico Indigenous Farmers
Grants Awarded
Northern New Mexico Indigenous Farmers, Inc.'s (NNMIF) Outdoor Equity youth program aims to provide meaningful and regular access to outdoor activities for Indigenous and rural youth. By focusing on land-based education, agriculture, and stewardship with a blend of cultural knowledge and environmental responsibility, the program endeavours to boost confidence, physical activity, and an ecological understanding while introducing potential career paths in agriculture and land stewardship. Ultimately, by aligning with the Outdoor Equity Fund's mission and applying Indigenous values, the program hopes to foster a sustainable, culture-centric model for promoting youth engagement with the outdoors in rural New Mexico.
The Northern New Mexico Indigenous Farmers was created to assist the area farmers in addressing farming practices that have been long overdue, it is also the intent of the organization to seek funds for area farmers to begin to address farmland rehabilitation projects to promote food sovereignty among the Indian communities. The organization’s intent is to be recognized as a hub for farmers and local leadership in working together in addressing issues at hand. Environmental impacted communities are one of priorities to project farmland rehabilitation.
