The Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments is developing a Regional Outdoor Recreation & Conservation Master Plan to guide coordinated outdoor recreation and conservation efforts across McKinley and Cibola Counties, gathering community input, identifying assets, and establishing regional goals and strategies. The project will also fund a part-time Outdoor Recreation & Conservation Coordinator to support planning, stakeholder engagement, and implementation of projects outlined in the plan. Together, these efforts aim to expand outdoor recreation opportunities, strengthen regional collaboration, and support sustainable conservation and community development initiatives.

The Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments (COG) is a regional planning agency designated by both the State of New Mexico and the U.S. Economic Development Administration to support local and regional development. For over 50 years, the COG has worked on behalf of member governments to coordinate planning efforts and advance economic growth throughout Northwest New Mexico.
