Questa Independent School District
Grants Awarded
The Questa Independent School District Outdoor Experiential Education Program aims to engage students in hands-on learning experiences within their natural surroundings, fostering connections between students, their community, and the environment. This program seeks to enrich students' educational journeys and equip them with a solid foundation for future exploration and engagement with the world around them.
The Questa School District serves several small communities north of Taos, to the Colorado state line. Due to the poverty levels in our community, the district is 100% federally funded for free lunch and breakfast. Our families have also struggled with economic difficulties stemming primarily from the closing of the Chevron mine outside of Questa. We have limited support services for families, and many families are extremely isolated. The Questa School District finds itself, however in an incredibly hopeful position after years of struggle. We are refocusing our energy as a destination district and have implemented several new programs designed both to engage students, and to maximize our participation in and care for the beautiful landscape around us. Over the last several years, we have created new outdoor, experiential learning experiences unique in a public school setting. With our community and funding partners, we have developed a unique Snow Sports Program as well as Outdoor Education and Experience opportunities for students in all grades, PreK-12.
