Spirit of Hidalgo
Grants Awarded
Explore Hidalgo County Outdoors (EHCO) promotes economic growth and enhances community well-being by developing a trail system around key sites in Lordsburg and Hidalgo County. The Shakespeare Hub project will provide access to hiking trails, historical sites, recreational areas, and camping facilities, fostering outdoor engagement and attracting visitors to the region.
SPIRIT of Hidalgo is planning to erect 12 horse stalls at the Hidalgo County Fairgrounds that can serve as temporary accommodations for horses during rodeos, county fairs, and by interstate travelers, addressing an unmet need in the community. With potential income from events attended by audiences from Arizona, Texas, and Mexico, the county is in favor of the addition and is committed to facilitate the groundwork, water line upgrades, and project support. Aside from being a practical development, the project also provides a hands-on training opportunity for local youths interested in agriculture or construction. SPIRIT leaders, including President/CEO Beth Cox and Founder Christine Ortiz, are commended for their 14 years of service and their successful grants and contracts, proving SPIRIT as an effective conduit in supporting the local community.
