Town of Mountainair
Grants Awarded
The Town of Mountainair will organize three outdoor trips for low-income, at-risk youth at Mountainair Middle and High School, fostering exploration and respect for New Mexico's natural environment. These experiences aim to cultivate a lasting connection with nature, ensuring participants gain valuable outdoor recreation skills and develop an appreciation for their surroundings, which many may not have had the opportunity to enjoy previously.
The Town of Mountainair aims to connect students from Mountainair Public Schools with the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of New Mexico through outdoor adventures. By expanding the program to include 4th graders and activities like white water rafting and visits to the Sandia Tram, the initiative seeks to enrich the students’ experiences, broaden their horizons, and enhance community engagement with the local environment.
The Town of Mountainair is a small beautiful town located approximately 10 miles from the geographical center of the state. The Town of Mountainair has recently worked hand and hand with other organizations including Mountainair Public Schools, Manzano Mountain Arts Council, MONTA and other smaller local organizations to help put on events that bring in tourism. Our main focus is our youth and trying to give them the best possible life we can while still living in such a rural area. The Town of Mountainair has utilized multiple grants including the NM Outdoor Equity, Clean & Beautiful Grant and other smaller grants to help push these goals. We are small, but we are mighty and we are working hard to utilize all resources possible to make life in our town the best it can be. We recently started a once a year Hot Air Balloon Rally that is a huge hit with our locals as well as tourists.
