The Taos Pueblo Winter Sports Program enhances the educational development of Native American youth by providing them with opportunities to participate in winter sports, such as downhill skiing and snowshoeing. Participants will improve their physical fitness, develop leadership skills through teamwork and service, and foster a positive self-image, ultimately contributing to healthier lifestyles and reduced risky behaviors within the local community. The program also emphasizes partnerships with organizations to broaden support and resources for the youth.
Through WOW, we have accomplished a change within Tribal Programs and Tribal governments that now have a youth component in which they never did before, the Taos Pueblo Sports Alliance, a WOW project, is now part of a Tribal Resolution that ensures Tribal Government support, and the Youth Outreach Program has a partnership with Taos Day School in which experiential education is a priority.
