Picuris Pueblo: A bold vision becomes top-rated bike park in North America
Picuris Pueblo – Peñasco, NM

Situated in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico 24 miles southeast of Taos, lies the humble Pueblo of Picuris. In 2024, Tribal Governor Craig Quanchello put his vision for a world-class bike park at the Pueblo into motion and was awarded a $500,000 Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Outdoor Recreation Division. Quanchello may have surprised Rocket Ramps Founder Henry Lanman when he shared just how big he wanted the Santa Fe-based trail builders to go with their jumps. “There’s nothing like the Picuris Pueblo Bike Park within a 300-mile radius of this tiny town.”
The project caught national attention in Singletracks, which dubbed the park as “The gnarliest bike park in the Southwest” and later awarded it “Best bike park/skills park in North America in 2025“. The features highlight Picuris Pueblo’s vision for creating a world-class biking destination and their desire to give their youth something healthy and fun to enjoy. The bike park includes progressive jump lines from intermediate to pro-level lines, technical skills features, and drop zones, and is a component of Picuris Pueblo’s All Wheels Park which also includes a World Championship Certified asphalt pump track, an extensive skatepark, and an Olympic trampoline zone.
What began as a bold idea is now positioning Picuris Pueblo as a premier bike park destination, drawing riders and visitors from across the world. By investing in recreation infrastructure rooted in community vision, Picuris Pueblo is demonstrating how outdoor recreation can fuel economic vitality while reinforcing pride, wellness, and opportunity at home.
